Manor Coating Systems is a leading manufacturer of high solids and compliant coatings. Our first range of compliant coatings was launched more than 10 years ago, are latest products are our third generation.
Legislation setting limits for VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) differs depending on where a coating is being used, basically this falls into three categories:
Buildings
Manufacturers must only place on the markets paints meeting criteria that vary with the type of paint. Decorative paints from Manor Coating Systems (and most manufacturers) already meet the 2007 targets, new more stringent target come into effect in 2010.
Vehicle Refinish
Similar rules apply as for buildings. High solid products are now available from Manor Coating Systems to enable the users to meet their VOC obligations.
Industrial processes – for metal, wood and plastic
VOC limits are defined in relation to the amount of VOC’s released into the atmosphere by each process and the weight solids of the paint required to be used. The limits set in the Solvent Emissions Directive (SED) are:
| |
Processes emitting 5-15 tonnes of VOC per year
|
Processes emitting more than 15 tonnes of VOC per year
|
| Metal and Plastic (EPA PG6/23) |
|
|
| Current process target |
52.5% wt solids coating |
62.5% wt solids coating |
| October 2007 |
64.0% wt solids coating |
73.0% wt solids coating |
| Wood (EPA PG 6/33) |
|
|
| Current and future target |
38.0% wt solids coating |
50.0% wt solids coating |
Manor Coating Systems has a range of coatings to enable users to meet their obligations under the SED based on high solid single pack systems, two pack systems and water borne systems.
Water borne coatings
In recent years improvements in polymer technology have meant that for the first time, in our opinion, high performance water borne coatings suitable for use in industrial applications are now technically possible. We already have some water borne industrial coatings and our range continues to expand.
In general water borne coatings need much better drying conditions including air movement than solvent borne coatings and dry times are still about twice those of high solids solvent borne coatings.
